1921-1922 Season Nothing:

1921-1922 Season Nothing In Chicago, Westinghouse's KYW went on the air in November 1921 with the Chicago Civic Opera, directed by the opera star Mary Garden. KYW carried the entire opera schedule for the 1921-1922 season nothing season and nothing else. It was estimated that there were 1,300 receivers in Chicago at the start of the season and 20,000 at the end. David Sarnoff proved to be a prophet without equal: in 1920 he had estimated that if RCA undertook the manufacture of "radio music boxes," it could expect to sell one million at $75 apiece in the first three years. Actual sales by RCA for 1922 through 1924 amounted to $83.5 million. By the end of 1924 there were 583 stations on the air and an estimated 3 million receiving sets in use.

As minister of recoi struction and foreign minister (1921-1922 season nothing) of tt Weimar Republic, Rathenau worked for bearabi amounts and methods of reparation payment and thereby for reconciliation with France, ; well as for the settlement of mutual claims wit Soviet Russia (Treaty of Rapallo, 1922). Asa eloquent and supremely qualified critic of capita ism, he incurred the hatred of his own class; ; a wealthy Jew and republican patriot, that of ft rising forces of nazism. His labors for recoi ciliation and peace were denounced as treason, h rapprochement with Russia as evidence of Bo shevist sympathies. Rejecting bodyguards, ft proud and courageous man was assassinated t reactionaries in June 1922.

Although the Greek army reached within 20 miles (32 km) of Ankara, it was decisively defeated by Mustafa Kemal in August and September 1921. The Turkish counterattack resulted in a Greek disaster. In September 1922 the Turkish Army took and burned the Greek section of Smyrna. This national catastrophe led to a military revolt headed by Col. Nikolaos Plastiras and Col. Stylianos Gonatas. Constantine I abdicated in favor of his son George II, who became king in September 1922.
