Approximate Shape: Oven temperatures, where necessary, have been given in two ways in this book—at the top of the recipes you will find the approximate shape cooking time and under this the approximate shape oven temperature. In the method itself you will find the description, i.e. 'moderate', etc. This can be an approximate shape guide only. Different makes of cookers vary and it is a fact that even the same make of cooker can give slightly different individual results at the same temperature or setting.
Consequently, a more restricted harmonic analysis is used to approximate shape the shape of the curve y = f(x). For if it is known only as a shape or only for some values of x, the whole curve can be approximate shaped to within a calculable error by a finite series. The closest approximation is obtained by using the values of the constants as given by Equation (3) in a finite series of the form given in Equation (2). This calculation can be done by machines.
Also appears in such typical para-gogic forms as the chord of the seventh, ninth, and added sixth. Conversely, the root tone alone can be used to represent the entire chord, as in the frequently misunderstood opening bar of Mozart's "Dissonance" Quartet (K.465). Further, the triad is capable of retaining its identity when its tones are displaced or replaced or appear in company with competing tones.
THIS INFLUENCES design considerably. Few plots are symmetrical, but that really does not matter. An L-shape or a triangle can even offer more design potential than a rectangle. Perhaps the most difficult shape of all is a square, particularly when it is too small to subdivide as in many yards in front. A design for an awkward shape needs to be carefully thought out. A long thin area, for example, can be divided into contrasting sections with barriers across its width, but by leaving a narrow view running through from one end to the other you create an additional sight line. Furthermore, by placing an ornamental feature like a statue or seat at the far end, you gain the full benefit from the site's length while the screens minimize the disadvantages of its shape.
