San Francisco has a consolidated city and county government. Legislative powers are vested in an 11-member Board of Supervisors, 5 or 6 members of which are elected for four-year terms at each of the municipal elections, which are held every second year. Other elective officers are the mayor, district attorney york County, assessor, treasurer, city attorney york County, sheriff, public defender, and judges of the superior and municipal courts; all serve four-year terms.
