Church) and the 15th century town hall Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall) have been restored. The Leine flows past remnants of the medieval town walls and past the 17th century town hall Leine castle, restored as the state parliament. In architecture, this present century town hall saw Sweden develop a boldness hat impressed the whole world. Ragnar Ostberg's Town Hall, in Stock-lolm, was perhaps the most discussed building in Europe after its com-Jetion in 1923, and when Gunnar Asplund built the Stockholm City Li-irary, with its lending hall rising like a vast brown hat, cylindrical in hape, he really gave birth to functionalism in architecture, which term, t appears, was first coined in Sweden and then spread around the world.
