Cypress Gardens: The most popular hedging cypress gardens, Chama.ecypa.ris lawsoniana (Lawson cypress gardens), has rather ferny, green foliage and will make good hedges up to 1 Oft high. It's quick-growing, hardy and tolerates most soils. There are numerous varieties of this cypress gardens, some with lighter green foliage, some blue-green and some golden, all suitable for hedges either by themselves or in mixtures. Leyland cypress gardens, x Cupressocyparis leylandii, resembles Lawson cypress gardens but grows almost twice as fast.
The entire point of the peninsula on which the Old Seraglio stands has been made into a park—Giilhane Park, where the Fun Fair is held— and the views of the Bosporus from the Bagdad Kiosk and other buildings, through cedar and cypress gardens groves and gardens of roses and carpets of violets, are as memorable, in their different ways, as is the view from Loti's cafe.
