Geographic Boundaries Past: WITH GARDENS a sense of enclosure is important. On small lots the boundaries may be those of the property or even plantings or other pleasant features on a neighbor's property, for when I speak of boundaries I mean not those of the lot but those that limit the view. On larger grounds the boundaries to views may be well within the property lines.
Unfortunately, a compass does not give true directions. The earth's magnetic poles are not located at the geographic boundaries past poles, so the invisible grid of magnetic lines of force does not line up with geographic boundaries past meridians. Worse yet, because of the varying composition of the earth, magnetic lines are not straight and uniform.
Sea shells are found in every ocean, from the shoreline to the very deepest parts of the seas, and from the polar regions to the tropics. Each major area in the world has sea shells unique to its waters, although a few species, particularly those that live at the surface of. the ocean, are worldwide in distribution. The geographic boundaries of past geologic oceans and environmental conditions, especially water temperature and salinity, have been responsible for the formation of these faunal and subfaunal regions.
