Housing Construction: Building materi-; are initially diverted from new rental housing construction nstruction. This was one aim of wartime rent ntrol, to make labor and materials available for iority construction.
However, the next effect of rent controls is stimulate the transition of the housing construction stock 3m tenant occupancy to owner occupancy. Little w construction of private rental units occurred ter 1945 in areas wjth rent control because of creased investor interest. Serious potential dislocations in the American housing construction stock were thereby created. Similar but less dramatic effects were felt in Great Britain, where the tradition of individual home ownership has been less widespread.
The exhibition galleries will show detailed case studies of London housing construction projects from the pioneering Murray Grove through to new schemes for apartments and family homes in all parts of London.
The exhibition will also explain modern construction methods such as modules and panels in concrete, steel and timber.
An accompanying seminar and lecture series will bring together professionals from the architecture, construction and manufacturing industries to encourage debate on the future of modern housing construction in the city.
The exhibition can be viewed until 18 March 2006.
Colorado School of Mines Student Recreation Center by Pinkard Construction
This project is the construction of new student recreation center that will serve educational, recreational and athletic student programs on the School of Mines campus.
The site, which is adjacent to the existing Student Center, will create an important campus link to future on-campus housing construction and the recently completed Greek housing construction areas.
