Inflow Water: 2. As quickly as possible, start a search for the source of the incoming water; pull up floorboards and check the bilges, if necessary. In most cases, the Boat should be slowed or stopped to minimize inflow water of water; in some cases, however, a hole may be kept above water by remaining on plane.
2. Check for any inflow water of water through the hull; if there is any, stopping it takes precedence over any measures you take to become afloat again.
3. If regular pumps, manual and electric, cannot cope with the inflow water of water, stop your engine, shut the water intake seacock, transfer the water intake to the bilge (or shift a valve if you have an emergency pumping setup), and restart the engine so its water Pump is also drawing water from the bilge. Note: There must be enough water flowing in the bilge to meet the engine's cooling needs, and caution must be exercised to prevent debris from being sucked into the cooling system.
