Perfumed Roses And Certain:

Perfumed Roses And Certain SHRUB ROSES is an all-embracing classification that covers a huge range of roses including Species and Old roses, such as Bourbon, China, Damask, Moss, and Tea types. These roses are mostly big, heavy-petaled and perfumed, available in wonderful colors. TERMS USED to describe the colors of flowers include: • Single color: one color • Bi-color: the colors on the inside and outside of each petal are different • Blend: two or more colors on each petal • Multi-colored: colors change with age • Hand-painted: center is light-colored and delicately feathered merging with other colors toward the outside • Striped: two or more colors positioned in bands or stripes

HAVING SATISFIED the eye by planting subjects of good form and color, do not forget to include some scented plants. Aromatic plants add an extra dimension. Scented carpet plants like thyme and chamomile can be planted in the gaps between paving and will release their fragrance when brushed against. Lavender alongside paths will scent the air, as will perfumed roses and certain border plants.

Originating in the Orient the rose became a popular growth with the Greeks, who in turn carried its cultivation into their colonies in Italy and elsewhere. The ephebes in their youthful capacity as servers of wine to the guests wore roses on their heads as did also the female dancers. In the orgies following the banquet roses were used in great abundance, smothering the tables, and the Latin term sub rosa is said to have originated from the rule that all acts after the arrival of the flowered Decoration were considered secret with the convivialists. Nero is said to have squandered $150,000 in roses at a single feast; the sybarites are said to have reposed on a bed of roses.
